The announcement took place during the Award Ceremony, on Tuesday night, November 29th at EAP, in São Paulo. The awarded beers were:
1st place: Kaola San Brew (Minas Gerais)
2nd place: Tarantino (São Paulo)
3rd place: Narcose (Rio Grande do Sul)
The participants received 40kg of American hops divided into 4 varieties (Cashmere, El Dorado, Idaho-7 e Idaho Gem, 10kg each). Among the breweries that compete and prepare their recipes are: Tarantino, Satirus Brewery, and Cervejaria Leuven (São Paulo); Koala San Brew and Zalaz (Minas Gerais), Alright Brewing Co. (Rio de Janeiro); Three Monkeys Beer (Paraná), Narcose and 4 Árvores (Rio Grande do Sul) e a Lohn Beer (Santa Catarina). The style of beer chosen for the 2021 edition was the West Coast IPA.
The three winning breweries will receive a refund from HGA’s representative in Brazil to purchase new American hops, and this award is divided into 1st place: USD1000; 2nd place USD500 and 3rd place USD250.
The United States is a big producer of hops. The versatility and variety of American hops are recognized internationally. Brazil has seen a great growth of craft breweries in the last ten years and American hops is a high-quality option to meet the demand of this promising market.
This was an initiative of the Hop Growers of America (HGA) non-profit trade organization, which among its activities, has an international program to support and educate professionals in the sector.
