Brazil defines import requirements for U.S. hop seedlings produced in vitro

The Secretary of Agricultural Defense of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply has established the phytosanitary requirements for the importation of in vitro seedlings (category 4, class 1) of hops (Humulus lupulus) produced in the United States through Normative Instruction 33, of June 16, 2020. Expanding production and consumption of craft beer in Brazil has increased demand for high-quality ingredients, including hops. Since Brazil is not a traditional hop producer and depends mostly on imports, Brazilian producers are making a significant effort to establish this crop to take advantage of niche market demand. Moreover, it also creates opportunity for American exporters of hop seedlings produced in vitro.
