USDA and Hops Growers of America Host Technical Seminar in Blumenau
On October 26, 2022, Hops Growers of America (HGA) offered, in collaboration with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), a technical seminar for students of Brewing Technology and breweries in the region of Blumenau, in the State of Santa Catarina. The event, which took place at the Escola Superior de Cerveja e Malte, was attended by approximately 50 participants. The seminar was led by brew master Matt Brynildson (@fw_brewmaster), from Firestone Walker Brewery, winner of the Order of the Hop, an international award reserved for the most talented leaders in the hop world.
Among the topics covered are the history, the growing regions, statistical data on production and on the varieties, utilization techniques, chemical/sensory characteristics, the differentials and the quality of American hops.
This activity was conceived in order to keep USDA and HGA engaged with the Brazilian beer industry and to reinforce interest in US hops among brewers in Brazil
