South Brazilian Brewery Wins the Best Brazilian Craft Beer 2021 Contest
The announcement took place during the Award Ceremony, on Tuesday night, December 7th at EAP, in São Paulo. The awarded beers were:
1st place: Salvador (Caxias do Sul)
2nd place: Startup UX Brew (Itupeva)
3rd place: Croma Beer (São Paulo)
The participants received 40kg of American hops divided into 4 varieties (Amarillo® BRAND VGXP01, Comet, Idaho 7®BRAND J-007 and Talus™ HBC 692, 10kg each). Among the breweries that compete and prepare their recipes are: Maniacs (Curitiba), Seasons (Porto Alegre), Dogma, Croma, Trilha, Molinarius (all São Paulo), Everbrew (Santos), Salvador (Caxias do Sul), Tarin (Nova Lima) and Startup UX Brew (Itupeva). The style of beer chosen for the 2021 edition was the Hazy IPA. Its main characteristics are: Straw to deep light amber, low to medium-low malt aroma and flavor may be present, and medium-high to very high hop aroma and flavor are present, exhibiting a very wide range of attributes, especially fruity, tropical and juicy.
The three winning breweries will receive a refund from HGA’s representative in Brazil to purchase new American hops, and this award is divided into 1st place: USD1000; 2nd place USD500 and 3rd place USD250.
The United States is a big producer of hops. The versatility and variety of American hops are recognized internationally. Brazil has seen a great growth of craft breweries in the last ten years and American hops is a high-quality option to meet the demand of this promising market.
This was an initiative of the Hop Growers of America (HGA) non-profit trade organization, which among its activities, has an international program to support and educate professionals in the sector.
