Tasting of American pears and pomegranates for visa applicants

On January 17, the Agricultural Trade Office promoted a tasting of pears and pomegranates at the United States Consulate in São Paulo. The fruits were offered to visa applicants. The Consul General in São Paulo, Mr. Adam Shub, participated in the event, whose aim was to promote American fruits sold in Brazil.

American pears – of the green Anjou, red Anjou, bosc and bartlett varieties – are available in the Brazilian market between October and March. Pears are rich in antioxidants and vitamins.

California pomegranates are also available in Brazil in the same period of the year. Pomegranates have a smooth skin and their color range from deep red to purple. They are rich in vitamins C and A, which are powerful antioxidants. Studies suggest that they help prevent cancer and Alzheimer’s and have powerful anti-inflammatory action
